The U.S. Department of Education (DEUS) has established new regulations to strengthen state authorization and professional licensure requirements (34 C.F.R. § 668.43). These regulations require educational institutions to identify the student's location and determine whether the program of study will allow the prospective graduate to meet the professional licensure/certification requirements to practice in the state/territory where the student is located.
The Inter American University of Puerto Rico (UIPR) offers academic programs leading to obtaining professional licenses or certifications in Puerto Rico. The curriculum of these academic programs has been designed to meet the educational portion of the licensure/certification requirements and prepare students to apply for the exams for professional licensure/certifications in Puerto Rico. All of these programs offered in person in Puerto Rico meet the requirements of the boards and regulatory bodies of the professions at the state level.
Each state/territory in the United States may require additional specific requirements to obtain a professional license or certification. Additional specific requirements for obtaining a professional license or certification vary by state/territory. Students are responsible for researching the specific requirements of the state/territory in which they are located or plan to work after graduation. If the student is located in a state/territory where he or she is unable to practice, federal regulations limit the institution to the admission and awarding of financial aid (Title IV – Student Grant or Loan) to students in these academic programs. It is important to note that moving while enrolled in a program may affect compliance with the new state/territory's licensing requirements. UIPR does not guarantee that a student will obtain a professional license/certification, or employment in U.S. states/territories.
